Fall (2008)

Australia’s All India Radio mix a little Portishead with a dash of Boards Of Canada & Cinematic Orchestra to create the breathtaking soundscapes on their sparkling new album ‘Fall.’

Following 2006’s acclaimed album Echo Other, All India Radio return with a sparkling new album Fall. Mixing a little Portishead with a dash of Boards Of Canada & Cinematic Orchestra, Fall is the first album with new singer/song writer Leona Prue whose thoroughly entrancing voice adds a new focus to the band’s lush cinematic soundscapes. Guests include Graham Lee (The Triffids, KLF) who plays some stunningly atmospheric pedal steel guitar and experimental cellist Emily Williams.

Guests include Graham Lee (from legendary Aussie band The Triffids and classic KLF albums Chill Out and The White Room) who plays some stunningly atmospheric pedal steel guitar and Australian experimental cellist Emily Williams.

Key tracks include the string-drenched lushness of Persist and Fall, the atmospheric ambience of Morning Drops and the intense dark pop of Endless Night.

All India Radio commissioned award winning Australian animator Lucy Dyson to create a quirky and moving animated video for ‘Persist’ based on the true story of Topsy the circus elephant. Lucy’s recent projects include music videos for rising star Gotye, Dan Kelly, Bird Blobs, TZU, The Stardust Five, and an award winning music video for Sarah Blasko.

Reviews

This is probably my favorite one for the week. All India Radio has taken dream-pop to the next level with some mind-numbingly gorgeous songs that use pianos, strings, and organs to their fullest potential and sit somewhere between the realms of Portishead and Boards of Canada. This is also the band's first album with its new singer Leona Prue, whose voice pulls the listener into a trance-like state from almost the first note she utters. – xlr8r.com

On Fall, Kennedy's guitar and electronics resonate within co-compositions by himself and new vocalist Leona Prue, backed by Mark Wendt on bass, Ben Sims on drums, and Emily Williams ..o. The best tracks keep the backing simple and evocative, like opener "Far Away", with Prue's voice working beautifully over a loping groove and aching strings. Although Prue's vocals are a new addition to the All India Radio sound, they are far and away the most appealing aspect of Fall. Emotive without being cloying, her delivery consistently tugs at the heartstrings. It's pretty gorgeous stuff. - Tim Clarke, LUNA KAFE
